Hey guys, sorry for the lack of posts recently. Sadly, my energy was being diverted to important non-art things, but now things are back on track and I’ve got some stuff in the works for ya’.
In the meantime, I decided to make a new avatar (so it’s pretty low-res) but I’ve also decided to get a twitter (no tweets yet though :U), so here that is: @Bokann_Tweets
So justinoaksford gave me the good suggestion of throwing some light and shade on my flats, and I’m glad I did! He outlined a nice and simple method for doing so in the .pdf in his post for his Digipen students here. It’s essentially just using a cool tone on a multiply layer for the shadow and a yellow on overlay for the light. Pleasing results, and no rendering necessary! Decided to push the light a little bit, because I imagine them living in a world perpetually in the golden hour. Thanks, Justin!
I want to get in the habit of posting more sketches (or completing sketches, for that matter) since that was one of the reasons I decided to get a Tumblr. A lot of the times, I will start out the day with a warmup drawing, but will just toss the file or won’t save in the first place. Gonna try to stop doing that. This was supposed to be a 30 minute sketch but ended up taking more like 90 minutes.
ggns: Is that one of those gund polar bears in your comic about your cat? If so it sure brings me back, I had one too! :) Very moving comic.
Oh my gosh! I had no idea what the brand was but I looked it up, and sure enough it was a Gund bear! Except mine was a lil’ brown bear instead of a polar bear. He was my favorite stuffed animal but I think I renamed him probably twice a month and his nose kept falling off so he always had a different button to take its place. Thanks for the kind words! :D
